Laptop Only Works When Plugged-In

Laptop Only Works When Plugged-In

Laptops can work both when plugged in and unplugged. However, it’s not necessary to be plugged in all the time unless without a battery. When plugged in, it runs on (AC power) and when unplugged, it runs with a (battery).

Reasons why laptops only work when plugged in

The laptop only works when plugged in for some reasons including low battery, physical damage, a problem with the driver, unnecessary updates, overheating, malfunction in software, issues with power cables, and window updates. If your laptop only works when plugged then the issue underlies in the battery.

Low battery

The battery is considered a vital part of a laptop. If your laptop is only working when plugged in, it can be simply for low battery.

Sometimes you forget to charge or keep your laptop in sleep mode unknowingly. The battery is may not be connected properly. There can be a possible connection issue as there are removable and non-removable batteries.

So if you are a user of non-removable batteries, you can at least understand where the problem is.

Physical damage

Physical damage means the outer part of the laptop is affected. If the laptop is mistakenly fallen down, the charging space may get damaged. Due to this, a loose connection of the battery can also occur.

Problem with the driver

A driver is a set of files or software components that lets an operating system and device communicate with each other. If the problem is with the driver, then it will not recognize the battery carrying out its performance.

Unnecessary updates

Our window is filled up with pending updates and popping up notifications from time to time. You willingly or unwillingly make some updates that are sometimes not so necessary. It has no purpose to play a better part to function.

With these unnecessary updates, we bring bugs and junk files who has no use. Worst of all these files can carry viruses which in turn affect your device’s battery life and interfere with working.

Failed battery health

Your battery is at the peak of failing. Even if you keep charging, it still shows lower than 5%. You will notice your device will likely start to overheat when the battery fails to work.

Malfunction in software

If your laptop has aged, then the occurrence of software malfunction is prominent. It forces your laptop to reject ac adapter’s power.

Wrong power plans

Power plan settings are responsible for optimizing. Optimization is needed to optimize battery usage to keep the charger longer. As a result of this, the wrong power plan can lead to a stop functional laptop when unplugged.

Window updates

Since window updates are mandatory, they come with bugs that can damage drivers. You may have to change your corrupted batteries or uninstall them.

How can you fix these problems?

Since the problem is with the battery, you can simply change your battery and buy a new one. Even after this, if the problem is not solved, you can do as follows:

Check whether there are any loose connections: you can remove the battery and double-check if there is any sort of disconnection.

Reinstall the battery driver: reinstalling the battery driver can reboot the laptop and may help it function well.

Check whether the power cords are cracked: you can buy new power cords if they are cracked or bent.

Plugged in the right position: make sure your device is plugged into the right switch otherwise ups and down in voltages can lead to a damaged battery.

What are the potential dangers when the laptop is plugged in all the time?

It has some dangers when the laptop is plugged in all the time.

Firstly, the laptop can overheat and damage the necessary internal components of the laptop. If they stop working, then the laptop will become useless.

Secondly, battery life will come to an end which means when plugged in for several hours it has a disastrous impact on the battery.

Verdict

Unlike Computers, laptops work when plugged in or not. They don’t need to be plugged in all the time. But if they don’t work when unplugged, then the battery is at the fault.

You cannot work while having your device plugged in all the time as it can damage the main components. And if your device cannot work when unplugged it’s better to power down and remove the battery.
